This is a project for a great visionary films that recounts the adventurous life of Paramhansa Yogananda, inspired by his Autobiography of a Yogi, a wildly popular book with over 20 million copies sold. Yogananda touches the lives of whole generations, including Elvis Presley, Ravi Shankar, John Coltrane, George Harrison, Carlos Santana, and Steve Jobs. His image appears (alongside Yogananda’s spiritual teachers, whom we’ll meet in the film) on the famous cover of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Autobiography of a Yogi also has the distinction of being the only book Steve Jobs put on his iPad. Jobs loved the book so much that he left a copy, enclosed in a precious, wooden box, to each guest who attended his funeral.
PARAMHANSA YOGANANDA came to America in 1920, at the age of 27. He is credited with being the first person to import yoga from India to the West, and inspired a spiritual revolution. Today, all over the world, more than 300 million people practice yoga.
